Extreme Cold Grips Thalaikundha Village in Tamil Nadu Amidst Record Low Temperatures

While North India grapples with a harsh winter, Thalaikundha village in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district experienced an unusual drop in temperature, plunging below 0°C on Sunday. The freezing cold, an anomaly in the region, disrupted the routine life of locals unaccustomed to such severe cold conditions.

Situated in the elevated terrains of Tamil Nadu, the village encountered an unprecedented minimum temperature of 0°C, compelling residents to seek refuge indoors to combat the biting cold. Sources indicated that most locals remained indoors to cope with the unusually chilly weather.

Ooty, renowned as one of South India’s prominent hill stations, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius. The picturesque landscapes in the Nilgiris district transformed into a stunning spectacle, resembling a wonderland, as the lush green grasslands were blanketed with fresh dew drops, commonly referred to as white frost.

Areas including Ooty Nagar, Thalikunda, HPF, Kanthal, and Fingerpost exhibited traces of white frost, enhancing the scenic beauty of the popular hill station. Residents reported encountering challenges with their vehicles due to up to an inch of snow accumulation, particularly experiencing difficulty starting their cars.

Local meteorological authorities noted a notable contrast between day and night temperatures in recent weeks. While the maximum daytime temperature soared to over 25 degrees Celsius, the nighttime temperatures witnessed a significant dip, resulting in the rare occurrence of sub-zero temperatures in Thalaikundha village.
