The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police interrogated Punyashali Parekh, an acquaintance of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, in connection with an alleged remdesivir injections procurement scam concerning the BMC during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parekh cooperated with EOW officials, arriving in the afternoon and leaving approximately five hours later after his statement was recorded.

The inquiry revolves around the BMC’s purchase of remdesivir vials at inflated rates during the pandemic.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), vials that were available for Rs 650 were allegedly procured at Rs 1568 each, with around 65,000 vials acquired at this escalated price, amounting to an alleged misappropriation of Rs 5.96 crore, as per an official.

In a previous instance, the EOW had also questioned Suraj Chavan, an aide of Aaditya Thackeray, regarding another suspected irregularity linked to the supply of khichdi to stranded migrants during the pandemic.
