The Election Commission convened a crucial briefing in the national capital on Monday, assembling over 2000 observers tasked with overseeing the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha and General Election to Legislative Assemblies in 2024. Sources reveal that Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will address this gathering, emphasizing the need to streamline strategies ensuring the meticulous implementation of the model code during the elections.
These observers, ranging from police and general to expenditure categories, are selected from prestigious services such as IAS, IPS, IRS, and other allied services. Their collective objective is to monitor the polls diligently, striving to guarantee a process that is not only transparent but also unequivocally “free and fair.”

Simultaneously, the Election Commission is set to make its final visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, aiming to assess the feasibility of conducting polls in the Union Territory. The eagerly awaited dates for the Lok Sabha elections are expected to be announced shortly after the conclusion of this crucial visit on Wednesday.
The Election Commission has already undertaken extensive visits to various key locations, including Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Chennai, and Bhubaneshwar. These visits involved strategic meetings with regional parties and high-ranking government officials, providing a comprehensive assessment of each state’s preparedness for the impending polls.
In addition to these nationwide initiatives, a noteworthy review meeting occurred on March 6, where officials from the Election Commission of India engaged with District Election Officers, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati City, Superintendents of Police, DIGs, and other senior officials. This meeting, held at a city hotel in Guwahati, focused on assessing the state’s poll preparedness ahead of the anticipated Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
As the political landscape braces itself for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled sometime between April and May this year, the Election Commission remains committed to ensuring a democratic and transparent electoral process across the nation.
