The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at the residence of Abhishek Prasad, the press advisor to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, in Ranchi. This action is part of an ongoing investigation related to an alleged money laundering case.

The searches took place at 12 different locations, including Abhishek Prasad’s residence and the Deputy Commissioner’s residence in Sahebganj. The ED has been investigating Chief Minister Soren’s alleged involvement in a land scam and had previously issued several summons for his statement.

Reportedly, Chief Minister Soren received a “last opportunity” from the ED on December 30, 2023, to record his statement regarding the alleged land scam case. However, Soren deemed the summons as ‘illegal’ and has skipped six previous summons, citing various reasons, including prior engagements with state functions.

The ED had initially summoned Soren in mid-August in connection with the land ‘scam’ case. However, he didn’t respond to the summons then, citing official engagements related to the state’s Independence Day celebrations.

This recent development marks another chapter in the ongoing legal tussle between the ED and Chief Minister Hemant Soren over his appearance in the money laundering probe. The ED’s scrutiny and subsequent actions regarding the case continue to unfold as investigations persist.
