ED Conducts Raids at Properties of MLA Rohit Pawar’s Company in Money Laundering Probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches at various locations, including premises belonging to Baramati Agro, a company owned by MLA Rohit Pawar, in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam.

Official sources revealed that the searches spanned at least six locations in Baramati, Pune, Pimpri, and Aurangabad, covering the office of Baramati Agro in Baramati town.

Rohit Pawar, aged 38, serves as the NCP MLA representing the Karjat-Jamkhed seat in the Maharashtra assembly and is the proprietor and CEO of Baramati Agro. He is the nephew of Baramati MP Supriya Sule and Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state and MLA from Baramati.

The investigation into Pawar’s firm revolves around allegations concerning the “diversion” of funds and the deposit of earnest money by a company that had bid for acquiring a Maharashtra-based ailing cooperative sugar factor (CSF). The case of alleged money laundering by MSCB originates from an FIR filed by the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing in August 2019.

The police inquiry was initiated following an order from the Bombay High Court on August 22, 2019. The court’s directive was to investigate claims of fraudulent practices in the sale of sugar factories within the Maharashtra cooperative sector, alleging that these sales occurred at significantly reduced prices, raising suspicions of irregularities.
