The Eat Right Summit 2023, organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, focused on the theme ‘Shri Anna’ to align with the ongoing International Year of Millets 2023.

    Key Figures Share Insights

The event saw the participation of notable figures, including Sudhansh Pant, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Chairman of FSSAI, and G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, Chief Executive Officer of FSSAI, along with numerous health and nutrition experts.

    Emphasizing Preventive Healthcare

During the summit’s inaugural session, Sudhansh Pant stressed the importance of preventive healthcare in the country, highlighting the need for necessary dietary changes. He proposed that ‘Shri Anna’ could serve as a healthy alternative and recommended the introduction of ‘Shree Anna’ based dishes in the upgraded healthy and hygienic food streets across the country.

    The Shri Anna Revolution

Pant referred to the growing awareness of ‘Shri Anna’ in the country as the ‘Shri Anna revolution’ and urged everyone to contribute to this movement. He also mentioned the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FSSAI and the Ministry of Defense and suggested similar collaborations with other ministries and Central Armed Police Forces to introduce ‘Shree Anna’ based food to more people.

    Healing Diets

Noted health and nutrition consultant Dr. Shikha Sharma differentiated between healthy diets and healing diets, emphasizing that some foods are part of healing diets. For instance, she explained that turmeric added to pulses or vegetables is part of a healthy diet, while drinking turmeric with milk is part of a healing diet. She also highlighted the rise in sudden heart attack cases post-Covid and suggested ‘Shri Anna’ as a better alternative for healing diets.

    Discussions and Recommendations

The Eat Right Summit included in-depth discussions about ‘Shri Anna’ in three sessions. Colonel Vikas Hooda suggested the ‘Five (5)-E’ formula: Educate, Equip, Ensure, Examine, and Enquire, as essential for the country’s food system. The panel of scientists and nutritionists recommended incorporating ‘Shree Anna’ into the diet gradually, considering the potential challenges of a sudden shift to a completely ‘Shree Anna’ based diet.

    Broad Participation

The summit brought together experts from various fields, including students, and was organized in collaboration with CII and Herbalife.
