Their arrest was executed based on non-bailable warrants issued by the Hon’ble Court.
Details of the Fraudulent Scheme
The case at hand, FIR No. 60/2020 U/S 420 IPC, was registered at Police Station Thathri following a complaint by Sanjay Kumar, a wholesale supplier from Drabshalla District Kishtwar. The complainant reported receiving a call from a person claiming to be Ajay Nagesh Joushi, allegedly working with indices sucrose Ltd. in Hoshi Pura, Punjab. The fraudster deceived the complainant into believing that he would supply sugar, resulting in the complainant demanding 10 tons of sugar for his Thathri store.
As part of the fraudulent scheme, the fraudster sent a bill for Rs. 3,25000/= along with an account number (519902010877960) and requested the complainant to make the payment. The complainant transferred the requested amount to the given account. Later, the fraudster contacted the complainant again, claiming that the vehicle carrying the sugar had broken down near Udhampur. The complainant was asked to send an additional Rs. 5000/= to the vehicle driver, Raju, to facilitate the delivery. However, the complainant grew suspicious and requested the fraudster to send Rs. 5000/= to his account first. The fraudster refused, revealing the fraudulent nature of the transaction.
Police Action and Investigation
Subsequent to the complaint, police initiated an investigation, establishing that the complainant had been a victim of online fraud orchestrated by the arrested fraudsters. The investigation was thorough, leading to the preparation of a charge sheet against the perpetrators. Non-bailable warrants were then issued by the Hon’ble Court for their arrest.A police team from Police Station Thathri in Doda was tasked with apprehending the fraudsters. They successfully collaborated with the Uttar Pradesh Police to arrest both individuals in Farrukhabad, UP, and subsequently presented them in court. The court remanded the accused to District Jail Bhaderwah.
Notorious Inter-State Fraudsters
These fraudsters are no strangers to online criminal activity. They have been linked to several phishing cases in Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and beyond. Doda Police have made concerted efforts to raise awareness about cybercrime, online fraud, and scams, ensuring the general public is well-informed and vigilant, thus reducing the risk of falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
