DK Shivakumar Warns Pro-Kannada Activists on 60:40 Rule

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar cautioned pro-Kannada activists against taking the law into their own hands regarding the implementation of the 60:40 rule for Kannada usage on signboards. He emphasized the government’s commitment to enforcing the rule.

Shivakumar mentioned the mandatory nature of the 60:40 signboards and acknowledged the delay in manufacturing them. He urged activists not to resort to vigilante actions despite the deadline passing, with BBMP reporting 98% compliance.

    Campaign and Challenges

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike initiated the campaign for Kannada signboards, which faced challenges including vandalism. While some areas like Commercial Street have shown high compliance rates, there are concerns about forced implementation.

Addressing concerns about the water crisis in Bengaluru, Shivakumar assured citizens of alternate arrangements and refuted claims of water diversion to Tamil Nadu. He appealed to the PM and BJP MPs for support in acquiring permission for the Mekadattu dam.

    Political Accusations

Earlier, the BJP accused the Congress government of neglecting Bengaluru’s water crisis by diverting water to Tamil Nadu for political gains. Shivakumar countered these claims, emphasizing the government’s efforts to address the issue and secure water resources for Bengaluru.
