DGP Swain Prioritizes Secure Atmosphere For Elections in Jammu Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain assured that the police are collaborating with the Centre to determine the exact requirements of security forces for the upcoming elections, ensuring the “optimum utilization of forces” to create a safe and secure environment.
Commitment to Free, Fair, and Peaceful Elections
Swain emphasized the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directives to facilitate free, fair, and peaceful polls in J&K. He reiterated the police’s commitment to providing a secure atmosphere and a level playing field for candidates and voters. Swain confirmed ongoing discussions with the Centre regarding the deployment of additional forces, underscoring the importance of their efficient utilization.
Addressing Terrorism Concerns
Responding to inquiries about the cessation of terrorism in J&K, Swain emphasized the implementation of a comprehensive policy aimed at eradicating terrorism. He clarified that while there is no specific timeline for its eradication, the police are diligently following a roadmap to combat terrorism effectively.
Support for Special Police Officers (SPOs)
Swain highlighted the police’s efforts to ensure the welfare of Special Police Officers (SPOs), acknowledging their vital role in maintaining security. He expressed the intention to advocate for enhanced benefits for SPOs in the future, recognizing their sacrifices and dedication to combating terrorism.
