DGCA Orders Re-Certification of Red Bird Flight Training Academy After Crash Incidents
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has mandated the re-certification of Red Bird Flight Training Academy Pvt Ltd. This decision follows two serious crash landing incidents involving the academy’s aircraft on October 19 and 22, 2023.
Special Maintenance Audit Reveals Deficiencies
Post-incident, the DGCA conducted a special maintenance audit of the academy at its main base in Baramati, Maharashtra, and its four sub-bases. The audit exposed several deficiencies in areas such as personnel training, maintenance schedules and records, internal audit practices, tool and store management, and fuel storage and handling.
Enforcement Action Initiated
In response to these findings, the DGCA has initiated enforcement action against Red Bird Flight Training Academy. A show cause notice has been issued to address the identified deficiencies.
The DGCA reviewed the corrective actions taken by the academy in light of the maintenance audit. The review concluded that the academy has consistently failed to adhere to the Aircraft Rules, 1937, and civil aviation requirements, raising concerns over the maintenance and safe operation of its aircraft.
DGCA’s Official Statement
An official statement from the DGCA declared that a fresh re-certification process for the maintenance organization and continuous airworthiness management of Red Bird Flight Training Academy Pvt Ltd is underway. This process is crucial to ensure the academy meets the necessary safety standards and regulations.
