Delhi High Court Issues Notice on Anticipatory Bail Plea

The Delhi High Court has taken up the plea of a man seeking anticipatory bail in a case involving the alleged cheating of Rs 13.5 crores from an NRI woman. The accused, who is a branch sales manager with a private sector bank, faces non-bailable warrants (NBWs) issued against him.

Legal Proceedings and Dismissal of Bail Plea

Justice Amit Mahajan has directed the Delhi Police to respond to Vipin Kumar Mishra’s anticipatory bail plea. Mishra’s plea was dismissed by the trial court on March 13. The court cited his evasion of investigation and the issuance of NBWs as reasons for denying bail.

    Case Details and Police Investigation

Delhi Police’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) has registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust. One accused, Varun Vashishta, has been arrested and remains in judicial custody. Police seek custody of Vashishta to recover the misappropriated amount and locate other suspects.

    Allegations and FIR

The complainant, Shveta Sharma, alleges that Varun deceived her into investing in fake fixed deposits (FDs), resulting in a loss of Rs. 13.5 crores. An FIR was filed against eight individuals, including Varun and two women, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case underscores the importance of due diligence in financial transactions and highlights the consequences of fraudulent schemes.
