Delhi HC Grants Extension for ED and CBI in Sisodia Bail Case
Key Highlights:
- Delhi High Court extends deadline for ED and CBI to respond to Manish Sisodia’s bail pleas.
- Sisodia allowed to meet ailing wife once a week under custody, pending trial.
- Court dismisses bail petitions citing frequent applications for delay.
The Delhi High Court has granted additional time to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file their responses to the bail pleas filed by former Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia. The bench, led by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, has set May 13 for a detailed hearing on the matter.
Advocate Zoheb Hossain, representing the Enforcement Directorate, requested the extension citing ongoing investigations. The court had previously allowed Sisodia to meet his ailing wife once a week, a privilege revoked after the trial court’s dismissal of his bail petition on April 30.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, in rejecting the bail plea, criticized the frequent applications, deeming some as frivolous attempts to delay proceedings. Sisodia, along with other accused, faces allegations of irregularities in the excise policy, including undue favours and financial losses to the exchequer.
