Delhi Faces Potential Water Crisis Due to Unreleased Funds to DJB
Urgent Request for LG’s Intervention
Delhi Water Minister Atishi, who also holds the finance portfolio, has raised an urgent concern regarding a potential severe water crisis in Delhi. She has requested the intervention of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, highlighting the critical situation due to the non-release of funds to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
Impact of Funding Shortage
The minister pointed out that the lack of funds is hindering routine operations and salary payments. The situation has escalated to the extent that contractors have refused to continue work, posing a serious threat of water shortages, overflowing sewers, and contamination issues in the capital.
Allegations Against Finance Department
Atishi alleged that the Finance Department, under the direction of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, has not released the necessary funds to DJB. This has led to the current precarious situation in the city’s water management.
Awaiting Official Response
As of now, there has been no immediate reaction from the office of the chief secretary or the Finance Department regarding these allegations and the potential water crisis in Delhi.
