  2. Four people, including two children, remain missing as rescue operations continue.
  3. Flash floods caused by the cloudburst have damaged government schools and vehicles.

The body of a six-year-old girl was found in a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Wednesday, bringing the death toll from a devastating cloudburst to three. The cloudburst, which struck the Panchayats of Kumate, Dhraman, and Halla in Rajgarh tehsil late Monday afternoon, triggered flash floods in the Tanger and Dadi streams, according to officials.

Seven people from three different families were reported missing after the flash floods. On Wednesday afternoon, rescuers recovered the body of Shazia Banoo, three kilometers downstream from her village of Dungar Dhandla.

This tragic discovery follows the earlier retrieval of the bodies of Yasir Ahmad, 20, from Gadgram, and Khalid Ahmed Parihar, 12, from Suli-Kumate, on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

The search continues for the remaining four missing persons: Yasir’s mother, Naseema Begum, 42, and six-year-old sister Shazia Banoo, as well as Khalid’s mother, Gulshan Begum, 42, and eight-year-old sister Seerat Banoo.

Tehsildar Rajgarh Major Singh, who is overseeing the rescue operations, stated that teams comprising police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local volunteers are working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals.

In addition to the tragic loss of lives, the flash floods have also caused significant damage to infrastructure. At least four government schools and several other structures were damaged, and three private vehicles parked in the area were swept away by the surging waters.

The rescue operation remains ongoing as officials and volunteers continue their efforts to locate the missing and assess the full extent of the damage.
