A devastating fire erupted in Stains, a suburb north of Paris, resulting in the tragic loss of three Haitian women’s lives and leaving several others injured, including a critically wounded child.

The blaze ignited around 2:00 am local time on the ground floor of a residential building in Stains, approximately 15 kilometers from central Paris. The fire claimed the lives of three Haitian women: a tenant on the third floor, her sister, and a friend who was visiting after a family dinner.

Child in Critical Condition

Among the injured is a six-year-old boy suffering from severe burns. He lived on the first floor with his parents and two-year-old sister, who also sustained injuries in the fire.

Emergency Response and Evacuation

Firefighting teams, including 24 fire engines and 88 firefighters, worked tirelessly to extinguish the fire, with one firefighter slightly injured during the operation. The building’s residents were evacuated and accommodated in a nearby sports hall.

Building Awaiting Renovations

The affected building, home to an estimated 15 residents, was scheduled for renovations. The residents were due to be relocated to temporary housing shortly before the incident, as confirmed by Stains’ mayor, Azzedine Taibi. According to a local councillor, the building required various works but was not at risk of collapse.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have initiated an enquiry to determine the fire’s cause, aiming to uncover the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
