Day 10 of Silkyara Tunnel Rescue: First Visuals of Trapped Workers Emerge

As the rescue operation at the Silkyara tunnel collapse site enters its tenth day, the first visuals of the trapped workers have been released. These images, captured on Tuesday morning, show the workers in a stable state of mind and even smiling. An endoscopic flexi camera facilitated these crucial visuals.

    Communication Established with Workers

Rescue teams have made significant progress by establishing communication with the trapped workers. A walkie-talkie was delivered to the workers through a 6-inch pipeline, allowing direct contact with the rescue team. Among the trapped, a worker identified as Saba was asked to use the walkie-talkie to identify each trapped worker. Although the audio was unclear, the visuals confirmed the workers were in good health.

    Supply of Food and Essentials

A significant achievement in the rescue operation was the successful delivery of solid food and mobile chargers to the workers through the 6-inch pipeline. Hot Khichdi, prepared for breakfast, was the first hot meal sent to the workers since the collapse.

    Milestone in Rescue Effort

A major milestone was reached as rescuers brought a vertical drilling machine to the tunnel site from above the hill. This development is critical as 41 laborers remain trapped inside. Transporting the drilling machine parts to the site was a challenging task that took 13 hours and three vehicles.

    Multi-Agency Rescue Operation

The rescue efforts involve multiple agencies, including the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), and the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL). Each team is contributing uniquely, with RVNL focusing on another vertical pipeline for essential supplies and SJVNL bringing in heavy drilling machinery for vertical drilling operations. Additionally, International Tunnelling Association President Arnold Dix is present at the site to assist in the rescue efforts.
