Cyclone Hamoon has intensified into a ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm over the Northwest and Northeast Bay of Bengal. It is moving east-northeastwards with a speed of 23 kmph. At 11:30 am, it was located near latitude 20.3°N and longitude 89.9°E, about 330 km east of Paradip (Odisha). Hamoon is expected to weaken gradually into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during the next six hours and is likely to cross the Bangladesh coast close to the south of Chittagong by early hours of October 25th. It is expected to weaken further while moving northeastwards.

Precautions and Alerts

A ‘storm warning cage number 2’ was installed at Pamban Port in Rameswaram to alert fishermen about the cyclonic storm. The Odisha Municipal Administration has put all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) on alert and issued directives to prepare for the cyclonic storm, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and inclement weather.
