
Customs Officials Seize Gold Concealed in Jeans at Trichy Airport

In a significant operation, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit at Trichy Airport successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 348 grams of gold in the form of paste concealed within a pair of jeans. The incident took place on a recent Saturday when an individual arrived from Singapore via an Air India flight. The seized gold has an estimated value of Rs 20,84,868.

Simultaneously, another passenger, also arriving from Singapore on an Air India flight, was apprehended. Customs officials discovered 349 grams of gold worth Rs 20,90,859 in the possession of this individual.

Gold Smuggling Attempt at Cochin International Airport
In a related development, a passenger traveling through Cochin International Airport was intercepted for allegedly carrying a significant amount of gold. The seized gold weighed approximately 913.09 grams and had an estimated value of Rs 45 lakh. The accused, identified as Muhammad and hailing from Kozhikode, had arrived from Bahrain. During the examination of the passenger, customs officials discovered three cylindrical capsules suspected to contain gold in compound form, all concealed within the rectum.
This proactive action by customs authorities at various airports underscores their commitment to curbing illegal gold smuggling and ensuring the adherence to import regulations. Such seizures are essential to maintain the integrity of the country’s customs and border security.
