    • Couple from Kashmir spends nearly Rs 1 crore on drug addiction.
    • Both are now undergoing treatment, with the wife almost fully recovered.
    • Doctor emphasizes the importance of support and stigma elimination in addiction recovery.

A couple from south Kashmir has spent nearly one crore rupees on drug addiction but is now on the path to recovery. Initially, the husband, Sameer (name changed), fell into addiction after starting as a casual smoker and later befriending a drug addict.

His habit eventually spiraled out of control, leading him to sell his belongings to fund his drug use. Despite his efforts to hide his addiction from his wife, Sumaiya (name changed), she eventually found out and unknowingly began using the same drugs to relieve her stress.

Sumaiya quickly became as entrenched in addiction as her husband, selling her ornaments, land, and other valuables to sustain their drug habit. Together, the couple spent nearly Rs 1 crore on drugs, depleting their resources entirely.

It wasn’t until their family and relatives intervened that the couple sought help at an Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF). Despite their initial doubts about overcoming their addiction, they began to see hope through professional counseling and medical treatment.

A doctor treating the couple at the ATF shared that while Sumaiya has almost fully recovered and is under observation, Sameer is still undergoing treatment but is following the program diligently.

The doctor emphasized that anyone can break free from addiction with the right treatment and strong support from family and society.

However, social stigma often prevents individuals from seeking the help they need. The doctor urged the community to eliminate these stigmas and offer support to those struggling with addiction.
