The newly constituted National Alliance Committee of the Congress is gearing up for its inaugural meeting to be held in the national capital on Saturday. Party sources confirmed the meeting is scheduled for 11:30 am.

This committee’s formation was announced earlier this week by the Congress, aiming to engage with like-minded political entities to explore potential alliances for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The committee is entrusted with holding discussions not only with partners within the INDIA bloc but also with other compatible political entities to strategize seat allocation for the crucial electoral battle.

The recent fourth meeting of the INDIA bloc did not address the contentious issue of seat-sharing, particularly following the significant electoral victories of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

However, alliance leaders Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal proposed Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge as the Bloc’s national face against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming general elections.

The National Alliance Committee, formed promptly by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, includes notable party figures like Mukul Wasnik, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel.

Additionally, former Union Minister Salman Khurshid and senior leader Mohan Prakash are also part of this committee.

The INDIA parties, striving to mount a unified challenge against the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, have been gradually consolidating their strategies through several meetings held in Patna, Bengaluru, and Mumbai earlier this year.

The committees are working towards collective participation in the upcoming elections while intending to finalize seat-sharing arrangements through a cooperative approach.
