Congress MLAs Express Dissatisfaction Over Jharkhand Cabinet Expansion
As the new Champai Soren cabinet in Jharkhand welcomed eight ministers, discontent surfaced among some Congress MLAs who felt that the expansion excluded new faces, contrary to their demands. Congress MLA Dipika Pandey Singh asserted that they had communicated their expectations before the cabinet reshuffle took place.
Demand for New Faces Ignored
Singh emphasized, “Our demand was that if the new government was being formed and the cabinet was being reshuffled, then new faces should have been given a chance.” This sentiment was echoed by Congress MLA Anup Singh, who stated that they have informed the Pradesh Congress Committee president about their concerns, emphasizing that their demand for new faces remains unchanged.
Oath Ceremony Attendance and Persistent Demands
Attending the oath ceremony, according to Anup Singh, does not imply forgetting their demands. He clarified, “We are only trying to let our party know about our concerns.” After meeting the party MLAs post the swearing-in ceremony, Jharkhand Congress President Rajesh Thakur acknowledged their discontent, stating that the party would discuss the matter.
BJP’s Critique on Cabinet Composition
Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey criticized the JMM-led alliance for not including a Scheduled Caste member in the new cabinet. Dubey, in a post on X, expressed, “There is not a single Scheduled Caste member in the new cabinet of Jharkhand. This is the real face of Congress, JMM, and RJD.”
Chief Minister Soren Retains Key Portfolios
Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, while allocating portfolios to ministers, retained crucial departments like home and personnel for himself. Soren took charge of the Department of Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha, Department of Home, Department of Cabinet Secretariat, and Vigilance.
The newly sworn-in ministers include JMM leaders Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, Basant Soren (JMM leader and brother of former CM Hemant Soren), Hafizul Hasan, Bebi Devi, Deepak Birua, Congress’ Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, and Badal Patralekh.
In early February, Champai Soren assumed office as the chief minister, and on February 5, the coalition government secured a majority in the floor test with a 47:29 vote. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha with 29 seats and its ally Congress with 17 were confident in their ability to pass the trust vote.
