Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to kick off the Congress campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections by addressing two public rallies in the Ramban and Anantnag districts on Wednesday.
These rallies mark the beginning of the Congress party’s efforts to mobilize support for its candidates contesting in the first phase of the elections, scheduled for September 18.
The upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are particularly significant, as they are being held after a decade-long hiatus. The elections will be conducted in three phases, with polling dates set for September 18, 25, and October 1.
Voters will elect 90 members to the assembly, which will play a crucial role in shaping the future political landscape of the region.
In addition to Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party has lined up a formidable team of star campaigners for the election. Among the 40 prominent leaders are Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Sonia Gandhi, and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Their involvement underscores the importance the party is placing on these elections.
Tariq Hamid Karra, the chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), confirmed Rahul Gandhi’s schedule, stating, “Rahul ji will kickstart the party’s campaign from tomorrow. He will address two public rallies in Ramban and Anantnag districts in support of Congress candidates on Wednesday.”
As the campaign gears up, all eyes will be on how the Congress strategy unfolds in the coming days, particularly in a region that has been without a legislative assembly for such an extended period.
