In preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has established a National Alliance Committee, aiming to engage with potential political partners. The committee, formed by the Congress president, consists of senior leaders Mukul Wasnik, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, Salman Khurshid, and Mohan Prakash.

Simultaneously, the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc’s fourth meeting is currently underway in the capital amidst escalating political tensions between the Opposition and the BJP-led central government. The suspension of 141 MPs from Parliament has sparked significant discontent among opposition leaders.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, present in Delhi to meet with PM Modi, criticized the government’s handling of the situation, alleging a stifling of the people’s voices and a mockery of democracy through the suspension of opposition MPs.

Addressing the delay in seat-sharing within the INDIA alliance, Banerjee expressed that it’s not too late for collaboration, emphasizing the importance of unity among political parties.

The INDIA alliance, led by the Congress, aims to present a collective challenge to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the forthcoming elections. The ongoing meeting is expected to prioritize discussions on seat-sharing, a crucial aspect for the Congress, particularly after setbacks in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections, just four months away, is poised to be a key agenda item at the INDIA bloc meeting, following earlier resolutions to collectively contest the polls in the spirit of cooperation.

The series of opposition meetings in Patna, Bengaluru, and Mumbai solidified their intent to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections collaboratively. These gatherings emphasized a joint effort among parties while assuring seat-sharing arrangements through negotiations.
