Congress Distances Itself as Income Tax Raids Uncover Cash Linked to MP
The Indian National Congress swiftly distanced itself from Jharkhand Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu following the Income Tax department’s recovery of a significant sum of cash from a liquor company allegedly linked to him. AICC General Secretary of Communications, Jairam Ramesh, clarified that the party had no association with Sahu’s business dealings and urged Sahu himself to explain the unearthed cash discovered by income-tax authorities.
The Income Tax department’s series of raids on an Odisha-based distillery group led to the recovery of over Rs 225 crore in cash, highlighting allegations of tax evasion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the public via social media, assured the return of money embezzled from the public. He emphasized the importance of citizens juxtaposing the recovered cash with the speeches of their leaders.
Additionally, the Prime Minister shared a Hindi newspaper’s article depicting the cash pile recovered during the IT department’s operations.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the seizure of cash linked to Congress MP Dhiraj Prasad Sahu, denouncing the Congress for allegedly perpetuating a tradition of corruption across generations.
BJP leaders, including Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi, highlighted the magnitude of the recovered cash, citing it as the largest haul seized from a corrupt individual.
They reiterated the BJP’s stance against corruption and criticized the Congress for allegedly fostering such practices.
In response, the BJP’s Jharkhand unit president, Babulal Marandi, demanded the arrest of the Congress Rajya Sabha MP, intensifying the political fallout from the incident.
The ongoing investigation and recovery of cash linked to the Congress MP signify a significant development in the realm of alleged corruption, leading to heightened political scrutiny and calls for accountability.
