CJI Chandrachud Emphasizes Technology in Judiciary for Greater Access to Justice
The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, emphasized the crucial role of technology in bridging the gap between courtrooms and citizens during his address at the first regional conference on legal aid. The conference, themed ‘Access to Legal Aid: Strengthening Access to Justice in the Global South’, focuses on enhancing justice accessibility in economically developing countries. CJI Chandrachud highlighted the transformative impact of technology in the legal system, particularly in making court proceedings more accessible to the public.

He described the apex court as a ‘people’s court,’ committed to handling appeals and violations concerning legal aid diligently. Moreover, he emphasized the need to shift the discourse on human rights from a Global North perspective to a more inclusive dialogue that resonates with the experiences of the Global South. This includes acknowledging the history and rights of indigenous minorities and tribal groups, often marginalized in legal systems.
CJI Chandrachud’s speech reflects a vision of a more accessible and inclusive judicial system, leveraging technology and international cooperation to enhance legal aid and justice delivery, especially in the Global South.
