The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has successfully recovered foreign currency worth approximately ₹7.24 lakh from a passenger at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. The currency was ingeniously concealed within the trolley wheels of the passenger’s check-in baggage.

    Details of the Incident

    • Passenger Identification: The passenger, Md Asad, was traveling on an Indian passport and was intercepted at the Terminal-3 Check-in area of IGI Airport.
    • Currency Details: The foreign currency comprised Saudi Riyals (32,500) and UAE Dirhams (150), cumulatively valued at ₹724,800.
    • Detection and Seizure: The CISF team, employing behavior detection and profiling techniques, zeroed in on Md Asad early on Monday. During a random check at the departure gate, the concealed currency was discovered in two check-in bags.
    • Procedure Followed: After the discovery, Md Asad, along with the recovered currency, documents, and baggage, was handed over to the customs officials at the International Departure Customs Office for further action.

    Implications of the Find

This incident underscores the vigilance of airport security forces like the CISF in detecting and preventing the illicit transportation of currency and other contraband. The recovery of such a significant amount in concealed foreign currency highlights the ongoing challenges in airport security and the importance of continuous surveillance and profiling to curb illegal activities at international travel hubs.
