China Extends Invitation to Bangladesh PM: Strengthening Bilateral Ties in Focus
China has officially invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for an official visit, expressing eagerness to enhance bilateral cooperation across various domains. The invitation follows the recent re-election of the Hasina-led Awami League for the fourth consecutive term. The Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, met with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hassan Mahmud to discuss the upcoming visit, with both sides working to find a suitable time for Prime Minister Hasina’s tour to Beijing.
Continued Diplomatic Engagement: Building on Past Relations
Discussions between the Chinese Ambassador and the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister emphasized strengthening bilateral relations, as China reiterated its commitment to deepening ties during the tenure of the new government in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Hasina’s last official visit to China took place in July 2019, where she met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the latest invitation aims to continue and expand on the diplomatic engagement.
Balancing Act: Maintaining Relations with India and China
Bangladesh continues to navigate its relationship with both India and China, recognizing their importance for stability and development. The invitation from China comes in the context of diplomatic efforts to strike a balance in regional relations. Bangladesh, under Prime Minister Hasina’s leadership, has skillfully managed the rival interests of India and China, garnering support from both neighboring countries and Russia ahead of recent elections. The country remains committed to maintaining stability and fostering development through strategic diplomatic engagements with its key neighbors.
