Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar Assures Transparent and Fair Elections in Uttar Pradesh
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar conducted a comprehensive review of preparations for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference after assessing the state’s readiness, Kumar emphasized the directive given to election officials to enhance voter turnout.
Over a three-day review period, Kumar stated, “Our endeavor is to provide the best election experience and be fair.
All political parties should be given equal status so that there is no discrimination.” Emphasizing the commitment to transparent elections nationwide, he assured that the election schedule for Uttar Pradesh would be announced soon.
Highlighting the inclusive approach, Kumar mentioned meetings with seven political parties, including state and regional representatives.
The parties advocated for fair elections, a level playing field, and impartial conduct by officers and police. He disclosed that all election expenses would be handled through cheque or digital transactions.
Addressing concerns about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Kumar mentioned the parties’ demand for EVM transportation exclusively in government vehicles. He assured that officers and police have been instructed to work impartially, and steps have been taken to address apprehensions.
Providing details on the electoral landscape, Kumar mentioned that Uttar Pradesh has 15.29 crore voters this time.
Special provisions, such as booths for women and disabled individuals, and the facility for those over 85 to vote from home, aim to enhance accessibility. Additionally, three apps will be launched, enabling voters to report irregularities, access information through Voter Helpline, and learn about candidates via the Know Your Candidate app.
Concerning border security, Kumar noted that 30 districts share borders with nine states, with seven districts bordering Nepal.
Security agencies will collaborate on border control, and measures have been taken, including restricting cash van operations after 5 pm. The responsibility for ensuring fair elections lies with the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Kumar affirmed.
