Bushra Bibi Seeks Own Medical Checkup Amid Heartburn and Throat Aches
Bushra Bibi, the former First Lady of Pakistan, submitted a petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking medical tests from either Shaukat Khanum Hospital or a private hospital of her choice to determine if she was poisoned by contaminated food, as reported by Dawn. She described experiencing heartburn and throat and mouth discomfort, suspecting it’s from poisonous meals.
She claimed to have been poisoned and psychologically tormented at her Banigala residence, which has been designated as a sub-jail. Additionally, Bushra Bibi alleged that the government aims to pressure PTI founder Imran Khan by harming her. She also voiced concerns about privacy violations due to closed-circuit cameras in her bathroom, according to the News International.
The petitioner highlighted that she hasn’t had sufficient time to meet with her family and lawyers. Bushra Bibi has requested a transfer to Adiala Jail, and a petition on this is pending with the IHC. She further urged authorities to protect her fundamental rights.
In the ongoing Iddat case, the counsel for complainant Khawar Farid Maneka continued supporting the conviction and sentence of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Khan’s counsel, Salman Akram Raja, urged the court to conclude the complainant’s arguments, accusing Raja Rizwan Abbasi of delaying the case.
Abbasi presented the trial court’s verdict and mentioned key witnesses, including Mufti Saeed who officiated the Nikkah, Aun Chaudhry a witness, and Latif, a servant of Khawar Maneka. He noted that the charge of fornication under Section 496-B of the Pakistan Penal Code was initially added but later removed by the trial court.
Abbasi requested a 4 to 5-hour adjournment to complete his arguments on Section 496. Raja highlighted the potential for late-hour proceedings if the trial continued and suggested a one-day adjournment. Judge Shahrukh Arjumand mentioned the court’s closure for Eid holidays, indicating a full week’s workload ahead.
