Budget Session to Commence on January 31, Interim Budget on February 1
The Budget session of Parliament, the last session before the anticipated general elections in April-May, is set to commence on January 31 and is likely to extend until February 9, according to sources. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the interim budget on February 1 during the session.
The session will kick off with President Droupadi Murmu addressing the joint sitting of the two Houses of Parliament. The interim budget traditionally addresses the fiscal needs for the intervening period until a new government is formed following the Lok Sabha polls.
As the last budget presentation before the elections, the interim budget holds significance in outlining the government’s financial priorities and strategies during the transitional period. It serves as a crucial economic roadmap until the new government takes charge after the upcoming general elections.
