A tragic incident occurred on Saturday in Nangarhar, Afghanistan, where a boat capsized, leading to the death of 20 people, including women and children. The boat, which was carrying 25 passengers, sank around 7:30 am local time in the Basal area of the Mohmand Dara district.
Local officials from the Taliban-appointed governor’s office have confirmed that five bodies have been recovered so far, and emergency aid teams from the Taliban-led Ministry of Health have been dispatched to the site to assist in the search and rescue operations. Five passengers have been rescued, and efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining bodies.
The incident has highlighted the dangers faced by those using makeshift watercraft in the region, often out of necessity. Further details are awaited as the search continues.
