Bengaluru City Police Prohibit Ganesha Idol Processions and DJ Dances
Amidst a series of incidents, including riots, reported during the Ganesha festival in Bengaluru, the city police department authorities have made the decision to disallow Ganesha idol processions and DJ dances across the city. This decision follows an order issued by the city’s Police Commissioner, B Dayanand, in response to the escalating violence in the state capital during the festival.
Police Commissioner’s Directive
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayanand has directed all police personnel in the city to refrain from allowing Ganesha processions henceforth. He emphasized that if the Ganesha idol is paraded or if commotion ensues despite the police’s refusal of permission, the inspector of the respective police station will be held responsible.
Escalation of Violence During Ganesha Procession
Numerous incidents of commotion and clashes were reported during the Ganesha procession in various parts of the city, including Halasur, Yediyur, and Adugodi areas. One particularly tragic incident involved the alleged stabbing death of a man named Srinivas, resulting from an argument over dance during the Ganesh idol immersion procession in the Adugodi area. Furthermore, there were reports of a goat being killed during the Ganesha procession.
Despite the conclusion of the festival, the police department authorities have decided to deny permission for the installation of Ganesha idols and processions throughout the city due to the ongoing clashes and the unfortunate incident involving loss of life.
Permission Requests and Idols Installed
While more than 200 people have submitted applications seeking permission for the installation of Ganesha idols and processions, the police department authorities have remained steadfast in their decision to prohibit these activities. It is worth noting that approximately 450 Ganapati idols have already been installed across the city.
The decision to restrict Ganesha idol processions and DJ dances reflects the authorities’ commitment to maintaining peace and order in the city in light of recent events and potential public safety concerns.
