The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a case against Aptech Limited, a Mumbai-based company, and other entities over their alleged involvement in the leakage of the question paper for the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) conducted by the Railway Recruitment Centre in Mumbai. The examination, held on January 3, 2021, across 28 centers in Ahmedabad, Indore, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, and Mumbai, had over 8,600 participants.

CBI officials claim that the computer-based test faced accusations of question paper leaks through WhatsApp messages and physical distribution before the exam, in exchange for substantial payments. The FIR filed by the CBI accuses Aptech Limited, appointed as the Exam Conducting Agency, of supplying candidates with question papers and answers before the GDCE exam, upon payment of a premium.

In response to the case, the CBI conducted searches at 12 locations in Surat, Amreli, Navsari, Mumbai, and Buxar. The search operations targeted 15 individuals, including 10 Railways officials, one CRPF head constable, and private individuals, resulting in the retrieval of digital evidence and incriminating documents.

Aptech Limited had been in the spotlight on social media in Kashmir for its alleged involvement in conducting Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) exams. The LG-led administration’s decision to select Aptech, despite being blacklisted, faced criticism from various sections of society. Several political parties expressed their displeasure over the choice of Aptech for conducting JKSSB exams. Additionally, JKSSB aspirants voiced their concerns and urged the LG administration to investigate the matter, remove the “tainted” Aptech, and engage a more credible organization for smooth exam conduct.
