AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi Takes Oath as Pro-tem Speaker in Telangana Assembly

AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has been sworn in as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly at Raj Bhawan, Hyderabad.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in attendance. The Pro-tem Speaker plays a temporary role until newly-elected members are sworn in and a Speaker is elected during the first session of the assembly.

The first session of the third Telangana State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence.

Earlier, twelve MLAs took oaths as ministers in a new cabinet, with Revanth Reddy becoming the first Congress Chief Minister in Telangana. Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister. Congress secured an absolute majority, winning 64 of 119 seats in the recent elections.

Revanth Reddy, an Osmania University graduate and former ABVP member, entered politics in 2007, winning as an independent MLC.

He later joined the Telugu Desam Party and won the Kodangal seat in the 2014 and 2018 Telangana Assembly elections. In 2019, he became an MP from the Malkajgiri seat. Revanth Reddy, appointed president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in 2021, succeeded N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which ruled the state for a decade, secured 38 seats, while the BJP won eight and AIMIM got seven.
