ACB Takes Action in Kathua Bribery Case
In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has sprung into action after receiving a written complaint from a resident of Machhedi, District Kathua. The complaint accuses Gulshan Singh, a Patwari in Halqa Machhedi, Kathua, of demanding a bribe of Rs 5000 for issuing Virsati Intqal mutations and a legal heir certificate.
The complaint highlights that despite applying through the online portal of the revenue department, the Patwari demanded an advance payment of Rs 2000 initially, followed by an additional Rs 3000 to complete the issuance process.
Taking swift action, the Anti-Corruption Bureau registered Case FIR No. 02/2023 at Police Station ACB Central and launched an investigation. A trap team was formed, which successfully caught the accused Patwari red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 3000 in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused was promptly arrested on the spot.
Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused Patwari’s residential house as part of the ongoing investigation. This proactive stance against corruption underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold integrity and combat corrupt practices in the region.
