ACB arrests forest officials for accepting Rs 15000 bribe

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two forest officials, Forester Rashpaul Singh and Forest Guard Avdesh Singh, for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
The bribe was demanded to release a payment of Rs 2,81,290 for fencing work, Mawa Plantation, pit planting, and patch sowing in Kaneli Nallah, Budhi Block, Kathua Forest Range.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, reported the matter to the ACB, seeking legal action. The ACB promptly initiated discreet verification, which confirmed the bribery demands by the officials.
Based on this, an FIR (No. 13/2024) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 161(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), was registered on September 14, 2024.
Subsequently, a special trap team, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), was formed to catch the culprits. The operation was successful, with both accused officials caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses.
The bribe money was recovered on the spot, and the officials were arrested after following due legal procedure.Additionally, searches were conducted at the residential premises of both accused in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses.
The investigation into the case is ongoing as the ACB continues to gather evidence and examine the full extent of the officials’ involvement.This case highlights the ACB’s efforts to curb corruption and take action against those involved in bribery.
