Siddaramaiah Resigns as Karnataka CM; Shiva Kumar Likely to be Next Chief Minister

KARNATAKA, MAY 29, 2026 [VoM News]: A major political twist has unfolded in Karnataka politics as Congress leader Siddaramaiah has tendered his resignation as Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that he tendered his resignation following the high command’s decision.

He thanked the top leadership of the Congress party for allowing him to serve the people as Karnataka Chief Minister.

During a media interaction, Siddaramaiah stated that the Governor would accept his resignation as per constitutional provisions.

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced suggesting there was stiff competition between Siddaramaiah and Shiva Kumar, who is likely to replace him as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Some reports also suggest that a compromise formula had been worked out under a rotational chief minister arrangement, under which Shiva Kumar would become Chief Minister for nearly two-and-a-half years. However, the authenticity of these reports has not yet been confirmed.
