MLA Shagun Parihar Raises Issues of Staff Shortage, Non-Functional CT Scan at Kishtwar Hospital in Jammu Kashmir Assembly

KISHTWAR, Apr 1: Shagun Parihar on Wednesday raised concerns over the functioning of District Hospital Kishtwar during the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, highlighting staff shortages and lack of essential medical facilities.

Speaking in the House, Parihar said the hospital has effectively been reduced to a referral centre due to the absence of key administrative and medical personnel.

She pointed out that several crucial posts remain vacant, including Chief Medical Officer, District Health Officer, District Tuberculosis Officer, District Immunisation Officer and a radiologist.

Parihar also flagged the issue of a non-functional CT scan machine, stating that the equipment has been lying defunct for nearly a month without any corrective action from the authorities.

“The hospital is not functioning at its full capacity. Patients are being referred outside due to lack of staff and basic facilities,” she said.

She urged the government to urgently fill vacant posts and ensure the availability of specialists, particularly a radiologist and an anaesthesia expert, to restore normal functioning of the hospital.

The issue comes amid growing concerns over healthcare infrastructure in remote districts like Kishtwar, where residents often depend on district hospitals for critical services.
