DGPC Jammu Seeks FIR Against Social Media Operator Over Alleged Defamatory Content
Jammu, Mar 26: The District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu has approached the Deputy Commissioner, demanding immediate legal action against a social media operator accused of circulating defamatory and communally sensitive content online.
In a formal complaint dated March 25, 2026, the committee named Ashish Kohli, who runs a Facebook page titled “Dogra Patarkar,” alleging that he recently shared a video containing what it described as false and malicious claims about the late Jaswinder Singh.
According to the DGPC, the video distorts facts surrounding Singh’s death—reported to have taken place under sensitive circumstances—and attempts to tarnish his reputation. The committee said the timing of the content is particularly concerning, as the matter remains under scrutiny.
The DGPC noted that the video appears “prima facie inflammatory” and has caused deep hurt within the Sikh community across Jammu and adjoining areas. It warned that the circulation of such material has already triggered tension and could disrupt public order if not addressed promptly.
Referring to provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, the committee alleged that the accused’s actions amount to promoting enmity, outraging religious sentiments, defaming a deceased individual, and spreading misinformation through digital platforms.
The complaint stressed that any delay in action could aggravate the situation further.
The DGPC has urged authorities to register an FIR against the accused, ensure the removal of the video from social media platforms, take the individual into custody for investigation, and initiate strict legal proceedings to prevent misuse of online platforms.
The letter, signed by DGPC Jammu President Ranjeet Singh Tohra, has also been forwarded to the Director of Information and Public Relations and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, seeking swift intervention to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law.
