in a shocking turn of events, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, stationed in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, has been apprehended by the authorities for the gruesome murder of a Nepali woman. This tragic incident unfolded after the officer met the victim at a dance bar in Siliguri, West Bengal, and subsequently brought her to the picturesque hill state of Dehradun. The Dehradun police swiftly cracked the case, solving the murder mystery within a mere 24 hours. The lifeless body of the woman was discovered in a suspicious state in the Sirwal Garh locality on a fateful Monday.
Unearthing the Victim’s Origins.
During their intensive investigation, the police unveiled crucial information about the victim. She hailed from Nepal and had been residing in Siliguri at the time of her tragic demise.
A Tale of Forbidden Love and Tragic Consequences.
The accused, identified as Ramendu Upadhyay, who was stationed at the Clement Town cantonment area, allegedly committed the heinous crime. It has been reported that Upadhyay was engaged in an extramarital affair with the 30-year-old woman. Their relationship took a sinister turn as the victim began pressuring him to formalize their union through marriage, according to law enforcement officials. The arrest of Upadhyay took place at his residence in Panditwari Prem Nagar.
The victim, Shreya Sharma, initially crossed paths with the accused at a dance bar in Siliguri. This chance encounter would eventually lead to a three-year-long liaison that would prove to be fatal. After being transferred to Dehradun, Upadhyay decided to relocate Shreya with him to the tranquil hills. He even went so far as to rent an apartment for her, confessing to these details during police interrogation.
A Nightmarish Long Drive Ends in Tragedy.
The horrifying sequence of events unfolded during a night of revelry at a club on Rajpur Road. Upadhyay and the victim, Shreya, consumed alcohol before embarking on a fateful long drive. The ill-fated journey took them to Thano Road, an isolated location on the outskirts of the city, at approximately 1:30 am. It was there that the officer parked the vehicle and, in a fit of rage, repeatedly struck the woman on her head with a hammer until she succumbed to her injuries. Following this brutal act, Upadhyay callously abandoned Shreya’s lifeless body by the roadside and drove away. Notably, the accused was already married and was grappling with mounting pressure from the victim to formalize their relationship.
