Congress President Expresses Confidence in Winning All Five State Elections: Mallikarjun Kharge’s Assertions

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has expressed his confidence in the party’s ability to form the government in all five states heading to the polls next month. He particularly noted a sense of anti-incumbency in Madhya Pradesh, which is currently under Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule. Mr. Kharge further highlighted that Congress-led governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan are effectively serving the people and addressing their concerns, minimizing problems.

Scheduled Assembly Elections

The Assembly Elections in these states, namely Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram, are set to take place in November. Each state will conduct its election in one or two phases, with the counting of votes scheduled for December 3.

Anti-Incumbency and Accusations

Mr. Kharge attributed the perceived anti-incumbency in Madhya Pradesh to factors such as inflation and unemployment. He claimed that the people of Madhya Pradesh are turning against the BJP-led government. Additionally, he criticized the BJP at the central level, alleging that the party failed to fulfill any of its election promises, including addressing unemployment and boosting farmers’ income and investment.

Neglect of Karnataka and Preparation for State Elections

During his visit to his hometown, Kalaburgi, Karnataka, Mr. Kharge accused the central government of neglecting Karnataka and not providing any central projects to the state. He also reported that Congress’s preparations for the state elections in the five states are progressing well.

State-Specific Background

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh are expected to witness intense competition between the Congress and the BJP. Telangana, on the other hand, will likely experience a triangular contest between the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP. In 2018, the Congress won 114 seats in the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh assembly, narrowly losing to the BJP, which secured 109 seats. In Rajasthan, the Congress nearly secured a majority with 99 seats out of 200, with the support of BSP and independent MLAs, allowing them to form the government. In Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi won 88 of 119 seats, while the Congress secured 19 seats. In Chhattisgarh, the Congress emerged victorious with 68 out of 90 seats, while the BJP won 15 seats. In Mizoram, the Mizo National Front secured 26 seats out of 40, while Congress won five seats.

The upcoming elections are marked by intense political campaigning, with leaders addressing rallies and making promises to the electorate.
