
Manipur Chief Minister Vows to Prevent Illegal Immigration and Maintain Indigenous Ties
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has emphasized that his government will not tolerate illegal immigrants in the state and is committed to preserving the historical bonds among indigenous communities. He stressed that the ethnic violence in the state, which began in May and resulted in over 180 casualties, has external involvement, pointing to groups from Myanmar and Bangladesh collaborating with Manipur-based outfits.
Preserving Traditional Ties
Addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony for three projects in Imphal East district, Singh sought support to maintain the old bonds between traditional and government-recognized communities. He reiterated his stance against illegal immigration, emphasizing that the emotional connections among the state’s indigenous communities are evident in the ethnic park at Moirang, which displays traditional houses of 34 indigenous communities.
External Involvement and Security Measures
The Chief Minister revealed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recognized the situation in Manipur as involving external groups collaborating with local outfits to wage war against the Indian union. He highlighted the recent arrest of two cadres of the Myanmar-based Chin Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA), which exposed external involvement in the violence.

Singh affirmed the central and state governments’ commitment to addressing external aggression in Manipur. Security forces have been deployed in vulnerable areas, and efforts are ongoing to dismantle illegally constructed bunkers, apprehend wrongdoers, and seize illegal arms. Significant progress has been made in these efforts.The foundation stones were laid for several projects, including the construction of a football stadium and the establishment of a market.
