US Imposes Sanctions on Three Chinese Firms for Supplying Missile-Applicable Items to Pakistan
The United States has imposed sanctions on three China-based companies, accusing them of supplying missile-applicable items to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program. The move reflects the US commitment to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and associated procurement activities.
Sanctioned Chinese Firms
The US State Department identified the three Chinese companies facing sanctions as General Technology Limited, Beijing Luo Luo Technology Development Co Ltd, and Changzhou Utek Composite Company Ltd.
- General Technology Limited: The firm was found to have supplied brazing materials used in joining components for ballistic missile rocket engines and combustion chambers.
- Beijing Luo Luo Technology Development Co Ltd: This company was engaged in supplying mandrels and other machinery, which could be used in the production of solid-propellant rocket motors.
- Changzhou Utek Composite Company Ltd: Since 2019, this firm has supplied materials like D-glass fiber, quartz fabric, and high silica cloth, all with applications in missile systems.
US Commitment Against Proliferation
In a statement, the US highlighted its determination to act against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and related procurement activities, regardless of where they occur. The sanctions aim to curb the transfer of missile-applicable technology to Pakistan, contributing to global efforts to prevent the spread of advanced weaponry.
China’s Response and Comments
The Chinese embassy in Washington and Changzhou Utek Composite Company Ltd did not immediately respond to requests for comments regarding the sanctions. The two other companies sanctioned were also unavailable for immediate comments.
