Top 10 Countries by Satellite Deployment Growth (2014 vs. 2024)
In addition to analyzing current space debris and risk scores, YIJIN Hardware also examined the growth in satellite deployment over the past decade, which contributes to the increasing congestion in Earth’s orbit.
Further findings:
- The United Kingdom shows the highest growth rate in satellite deployment, with a 1,727.78% increase. Their satellite count expanded from 36 in 2014 to 658 in 2024, adding 622 new satellites.
- The United States ranks second in percentage growth with a 605.12% increase. They launched 7,328 new satellites between 2014 and 2024, increasing their total from 1,211 to 8,539. This growth further contributes to their high space risk score.
- China ranks third in percentage growth with a 364.10% increase, deploying an additional 568 satellites during this period. Their total increased from 156 in 2014 to 724 in 2024, aligning with their high ranking in overall space junk and orbital debris.
- The European Space Agency shows the fourth-highest growth rate at 90%, increasing its satellite count from 50 to 95 over the decade.
