Navi Mumbai Man Loses Rs 20.22 Lakh in Online Job Scam
A 29-year-old resident of Navi Mumbai has fallen victim to a scam, losing a substantial sum of Rs 20.22 lakh. The fraudsters enticed the victim with an online job offer, promising lucrative returns, only to swindle him of his hard-earned money. The Navi Mumbai cyber police have initiated legal proceedings against four individuals in connection with this fraudulent scheme.
Fraudulent Online Job Offer
According to police reports, the accused initiated contact with the victim, a Ghansoli resident in Navi Mumbai, between October 5 and 10. They used a Telegram ID and WhatsApp to communicate with him, presenting a pre-paid online job opportunity that assured substantial returns. The victim was further instructed to make payments into specified accounts as part of this scheme.
Deceptive Scheme Unravels
The victim diligently completed the assigned task and made payments totaling Rs 20,22,444, anticipating both the return on his work and a refund of the amount paid. However, when he sought the promised refunds and returns, the accused began to evade the issue and avoided providing satisfactory responses.
Legal Action Taken
Subsequently, the victim lodged a formal complaint, which prompted the Navi Mumbai cyber police to register a case against the four individuals involved. They have been charged under Sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, in addition to relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
