Security Forces Bust LeT-Backed Terrorist Module in Punjab
A joint operation involving Punjab Police and central agencies successfully foiled a potential terrorist attack in the border state of Punjab. The operation resulted in the apprehension of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)-backed operatives and the seizure of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), hand grenades, firearms, detonators, and other explosive materials. The Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, revealed that Firdaus Ahmed Bhat, an active LeT member, was orchestrating the terror module.
Arrested Operatives and Details
The arrested individuals have been identified as Uzair Ul Haq from Jammu and Kashmir and Raj Mohammad Andleeb from the same region. The operation was initiated based on intelligence indicating that the Punjab border was being used by the LeT to smuggle a significant cache of arms and explosives. The two arrested operatives were tasked with retrieving the cache in the Kathu Nangal area.
Terrorist Network and Plans
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were recruited by Firdaus Ahmed Bhat, and the terror organization intended to employ them to target prominent individuals and strategic locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, aiming to disrupt the peace and harmony in the region. The arrested persons were in constant contact with Firdaus Ahmed Bhat through various social media platforms. Firdaus Ahmed Bhat had sent them to Amritsar to collect the weapons consignment and transport it to the Kashmir Valley.
Legal Proceedings and Further Investigations
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, the Explosives Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police and security agencies continue their investigations to uncover the entire LeT terror network and trace the source of the weapon consignment.
