SRINAGAR: A tragic incident occurred in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday when a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier took his own life.
The soldier, identified as GD Ram Kumar of the 89th battalion, was stationed at the Forward Defense Line (FDL) NITI Post Tangdhar. According to officials, Kumar ended his life by shooting himself with his service rifle.
The incident took place at the post, and the soldier died instantly from the gunshot. Authorities were alerted immediately after the event, and Kumar’s body was promptly transported to the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar for necessary medico-legal procedures.
Following the tragic event, local police have initiated an investigation under section 194 BNSS to determine the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s death. The details regarding the motive or any potential contributing factors to this distressing act remain unclear as the investigation progresses.
This incident has cast a shadow over the security forces stationed in the region, highlighting the ongoing challenges and mental health issues faced by personnel deployed in high-stress environments.
