Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests Senior Accountant in Srinagar Bribery Case
Key Highlights:
- Senior Accountant of SIDCO caught demanding and accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe.
- Complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau instead of paying the bribe.
- Bribe money recovered in presence of independent witnesses.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Srinagar on Wednesday arrested Mohammad Yaseen Sheikh, a Senior Accountant with SIDCO in Khunmoh, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
The ACB received a written complaint alleging that Sheikh had demanded Rs 20,000 to process a supplementary partnership deed. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 15,000.
Instead of paying the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB to take legal action against Sheikh. Following the receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, confirming the demand by the public servant.
Subsequently, a case under FIR number 18/2024 under section 7 of the PC Act 1988 was registered at the ACB Police Station in Srinagar, and an investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, a trap team was formed. This team successfully caught Sheikh red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. Sheikh was immediately arrested on the spot.
The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses who were part of the trap team.
The ACB spokesperson stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing. This incident highlights the ACB’s commitment to tackling corruption and holding public servants accountable for their actions.
The successful trap and arrest serve as a reminder to public officials that corrupt practices will not be tolerated and that legal actions will be taken to ensure transparency and integrity in public services.
