SRINAGAR, JULY 07: Today in Srinagar, Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha unveiled the book “The Swinging 70s: The Stars, Style and Substance in Hindi Cinema,” edited by Ms. Nirupama Kotru and Sh. Shantanu Ray Chaudhuri. The Lt Governor commended the editors and Om Books for their contribution to this insightful publication.
In his address, Lt. Governor Shri Manoj Sinha emphasized the profound impact of cinema beyond entertainment, noting its role in driving social change. He highlighted how both commercial and parallel cinema have shaped cultural ethos and contributed to nation-building efforts.
Jammu Kashmir: A Hub for Cinematic Renaissance
Lt. Governor Sinha underscored the unique bond between Jammu Kashmir and the film industry, citing its historical significance in socio-economic transformation. He outlined the administration’s initiatives to rejuvenate the film ecosystem, making Jammu Kashmir an attractive destination for filmmakers.
“The filmmakers are returning to the valley,” Lt. Governor Sinha stated, highlighting the region’s rich culture, scenic landscapes, and enhanced film infrastructure. He praised the J&K Film Policy for fostering a vibrant ecosystem and facilitating streamlined permissions through a dedicated Single Window Cell.
Empowering Youth and Boosting Tourism
Lt. Governor Sinha expressed optimism about the economic opportunities emerging from the film revival in Jammu Kashmir. He anticipated increased investments, job creation, and enhanced tourism promotion through cinematic endeavors, benefitting the region’s talented youth.
“The Swinging 70s” encapsulates the era’s essence through a collection of essays celebrating its fashion, music, diverse film genres, iconic stars, and untold behind-the-scenes stories.
