Altaf Bukhari, president of Apni Party, has urged the Indian government to uphold the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including their right to choose their own representatives through Assembly elections. Speaking at a public rally in Anantnag town, Bukhari emphasized the importance of strengthening democracy and democratic values in the region by holding Assembly elections without further delay.
Rejecting Dynastic Politics
Bukhari also called on the people of Jammu and Kashmir not to support traditional political parties that promote dynastic politics. He urged residents of Anantnag district, a politically sensitive region, to be cautious and avoid encouraging dynastic rule. He emphasized the need for vibrant political activities and leadership that represents the interests of the people.
Economic Prosperity and Employment Opportunities
Bukhari outlined Apni Party’s plans to address unemployment by leveraging the region’s natural resources and economic opportunities. He promised the regularization of daily wage workers in government departments, the revival of the ‘Darbar Move’ practice, and the revision of the New Mining Policy to protect local communities’ rights. Additionally, measures to control the sale and distribution of liquor in localities across the Valley were mentioned.
Establishment of Apni Party
Ghulam Hassan Mir, senior vice president of Apni Party, recalled the circumstances that led to the party’s establishment in March 2020. He highlighted the instability and apprehensions faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir following the constitutional changes in August 2019. The loss of Articles 370 and 35A, along with the state’s special status, raised concerns about demographic changes and the protection of residents’ rights.
